5 Practical Gifts for Violinists In 2025
Over the holidays, I started thinking a lot about different types of practical gifts for violinists.…

As a teacher, my goal is to help students of any age develop a strong technical foundation on the violin. This includes establishing good posture, a relaxed bow hold, and the ability to produce a beautiful, clean tone – the building blocks for all advanced violin techniques.
Having dealt with my own violin-related pain, it is particularly important for me to work with students on injury-prevention and help them find a comfortable and natural way of playing.
But learning the violin isn’t just about mastering techniques. It’s also an opportunity to nurture a deeper relationship with oneself by developing life skills such as discipline, self-evaluation, problem-solving, and confidence.

My teaching approach is inclusive and caters to students of all levels. I have enjoyed working with violin students from around the world via online lessons. I also have a limited availability to teach children in Chicago. To inquire about lessons, please send me a message.
“I studied with Kiyoe for two years from 2017 to 2019 and found her to be an excellent teacher. I have taken adult music lessons in the past with other teachers, and none has had Kiyoe’s innate understanding of how to guide an adult learner. She is not only a deeply skilled violinist, but she also has the curiosity and temperament that set her apart as an instructor. She regularly came up with thoughtful new ideas to address my growth as a violinist, and she was also unfailingly patient, helpful, and encouraging. No matter how bad a day I might have had before going into a lesson, I always felt renewed by the time I came out!” -Lisa, student from 2017-2019
“I have taken classes with Kiyoe for 4 years. We needed to meet online for 6 months, which went surpisingly well. Kiyoe made it almost like being there. I’ve been to many of Kiyoe’s live concerts. She is an exceptional violinist. Listening to her and watching her play is very inspiring. Kiyoe is an extremely attentive and quite professional teacher. I learn something new in every class. There is a neverending wealth of information to learn about the violin. I’m looking forward to many more years of studying and progressing with Kiyoe.” -Patrick, student since 2016
